How we got engaged
The first one went spectacularly well, so why not make it another "Choose Your Own Adventure" affair? Pete kicked it off by sending a series of emails to Anne, giving her choices for their upcoming 4th of July cabin weekend. She made a few decisions and knew it was going to be something special, but little did she know he had more than a few tricks up his sleeve. In fact, he woke up at 5am to drive up north, set up at the Whitefish lake shore with a tent, cooler, grill, and lanterns strung from the trees, and drove back to the Cities to pick Anne up. It was a lovely 100 degrees, so thankfully they drove through a rainstorm which dropped the temp to the mid-70s. Once there, Pete had Anne hop in a golf cart (wearing her favorite Mills Fleet Farm t-shirt), and they drove down to "the spot," where she was totally impressed and confused with the elaborate setup. As the rain subsided and the sunset bounced orange and pink off the clouds, they started making guacamole and Pete handed Anne the haiku book she had made for him to read aloud. On the last page, he proposed with these words (and the one knee thing, of course):
A journey of life
You and I run together
I ask for your hand
She said
yes - couldn't believe she was wearing a Fleet Farm shirt - and two
rainbows popped out from behind the clouds. It's possible a few animated bunnies and bluebirds
showed up, but difficult to confirm.
Then they grilled up some walleye, smooched a ton, and couldn't stop talking about how good their life together is and will continue to be.
